  • Health Services | Arkansas Northeastern College

HEALTH SERVICES HOME Academics Admissions Advising Early College Technical Center Customized Training Faculty/Staff More NALOXONE (NARCAN) DISPENSERS Arkansas Northeastern College (ANC) has installed 29 opioid overdose kits/pouches across campus. These kits provide Naloxone, also known as Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal medication. These will improve the capacity of bystander rescuers to save the lives of victims of an opioid overdose. DID YOU KNOW? Opioid overdose is currently the leading cause of death among adults 50 years old and younger in the United States. Without immediate intervention, opioid overdoses can quickly lead to death. HOW DO YOU KNOW IF SOMEONE MAY HAVE OVERDOSED ON AN OPIOID? Common signs are respiratory failure, slow breathing, small pupils, unresponsiveness, or blue skin from poor circulation. WILL IT HURT THEM TO GIVE NALOXONE IF THEY HAVEN'T USED AN OPIOID? No, the Naloxone is harmless if given to someone who doesn't need it. CAN ANYONE ADMINISTER THE NALOXONE? Yes. In-person training is not required. Instructions are provided on this site as well as inside the kit itself. The kit has instructions to call 911, as well as if and when to give a second dose of Naloxone. COULD THE PERSON SUE ME FOR GIVING THEM NALOXONE? No. According to Arkansas Take Back, The Opioid Antagonist Immunity Act (2015) SB880 allows individuals to administer naloxone in good faith without civil liability, or professional sanctions. The purpose is to enhance the emergency services of first responders, to create the naloxone access act, and to provide immunity for prescribing , dispensing, and administering naloxone and other opioid antagonists. OPIOID OVERDOSE KIT TRAINING VIDEOS Instructions are provided in the kit or pouch, and all ANC staff, faculty, and students are encouraged to review the following Opioid Overdose Rescue Kit training videos. Transfer students must be in good academic standing at the last institution attended. Entering transfer students should have a cumulative grade point average which falls within ANC’s guidelines for good academic standing. Students must be enrolled as certificate or degree candidates at ANC in order to have transfer credit evaluated and added to their permanent record. Initial transfer credit is evaluated based on student’s major. Grades earned in transfer courses are not considered in calculating students’ grade point averages. The cumulative grade point average at ANC is computed only on ANC courses completed. Transfer credit will be recorded showing the equivalent ANC course title and credit hours. Vocational or technically oriented courses will be accepted when directly related to a particular applied science program at ANC and will be applicable only toward the appropriate Associate of Applied Science degree. < DISABILITY RESOURCES Recognizing its responsibilities regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and American Disabilities Act, ANC is committed to providing all students equal access to its educational opportunities. Student Conduct & Discipline < PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT (PLA) Arkansas Northeastern College recognizes that much learning takes place outside the walls of the College. Some of this learning is comparable to knowledge gained in a classroom environment. This type of learning is based on a variety of life experiences and is referred to as "prior learning" and can be evaluated for credit by assessment. When considering whether one possesses prior learning which may be credited towards a degree, it is best to begin discussions with the PLA Coordinator. This individual is trained to assist students in the various methods available for prior learning credit. For more information, please refer to the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Guide below.
