The Technical Center is housed in the ANC Center for Allied Technologies in Blytheville, and provides students with hands-on training in career and technical fields. Our programs of study teach marketable job skills and offer industry certifications, as well as college credit towards Certificates of Proficiency, Technical Certificates, or an Associate's Degree from ANC. Services are offered at NO COST to the students. Books, tuition and fees are provided through the Tech Center and funded by the Office of Skills Development. OUR MISSION To teach our students the skills needed to succeed in their chosen career pathway through hands-on learning, honest and respectful classroom discussion, and work-based learning opportunities. < CALENDAR AND CLASS TIMES Students should follow their home school calendar, including holidays and breaks unless otherwise indicated by the Technical Center Director. Classes at the Technical Center are divided into two sections throughout the day. Class times are as follows: First Block: 8:20am - 9:50am 1-3 Periods Second Block: 10:05am - 11:35am 3-5 Periods < TECH CENTER FORMS Student Handbook Student Contract Permission to Drive Form Concurrent Credit Form COLLEGE CREDIT Each of the programs at the Tech Center offers students the opportunity to earn college credit from Arkansas Northeastern College at no cost to them. The number of credit hours may vary within each program. Students electing to enroll for college credit will have their grades and credit hours recorded on an ANC transcript. A student wishing to enroll for college credit must submit the following: Early College Application Early College Registration Form < EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES SKILLSUSA and/or TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION Students attending the Technical Center are eligible to join SkillsUSA and/or the Technology Student Association (TSA), both of which provide valuable opportunities for career and technical education (CTE) students. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry professionals working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It offers educational programs, events, and competitions that enhance technical and leadership skills. TSA is a national organization dedicated to students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), providing competitive events, leadership development, and networking opportunities. The ANC Technical Center supports student participation in these organizations, covering all expenses for those who qualify to compete in their area of study at the Arkansas SkillsUSA Competition or TSA events. TECH STARS STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM Students may apply to join the Tech Center Student Leadership Team, which offers them the opportunity to have input in Technical Center recruitment, initiatives, policies and procedures. Leadership Team members are given placements in Job Shadow opportunities. JOB SHADOWS The Technical Center partners with the ANC Career Coaches to place students in Job Shadow opportunities, where they can learn about career options in their program of student firsthand. Priority placements are given to Tech Center Leadership Team, but other students may be allowed to participate. < ADMISSIONS POLICY Prospective students in grades 10-12 are eligible to enroll at the Technical Center. All students are required to complete an admissions application and must submit a signed student/parent contract. In programs of study that are filled over capacity, students may be asked to provide attendance records and/or academic records. < TECHNICAL CENTER PROGRAMS COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS This program is designed for students who wish to enter the information technology field. The program provides a solid foundation in computer hardware and software, personal computer maintenance, coding, networking, and introduction to cybersecurity. Students will also gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting and system design and completers of this program may enter a variety of occupations in industries such as education, manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications, finance, and technology services. For each year in the program, students may receive a Certificate of Proficiency that will then lead to a Technical Certificate in Information System Fundamentals, if students complete the full two-year rotation. * Year 1 will be offered in 2026-2027. Students may enter into the program either year. * CONSTRUCTION The Construction Technology Program is designed to prepare students to be versatile members of a construction team. Students will learn the basics of construction safety, math, and power and hand tools. Students will also develop skills in rigging techniques and the safe assembly and use of scaffolding. Additional skills will include the operation and maintenance of light construction equipment used on the construction site including the skid steer, aerial lift, forklift, scissor lift, generators, compressors, and compactors. Advanced returning students will develop skills in site layout, form setting and placement, rebar layout and placement, and the pouring and finishing of concrete. By completing the full two-year rotation, students can earn ANC's Construction Technology Certificate of Proficiency. * Year 2 will be offered in 2026-2027. Certificate of Proficiency is earned after two complete years in the program. * HEALTH SCIENCES Through this two-year healthcare program, students will gain a strong foundation in essential medical knowledge and practical skills needed for patient care. The program includes coursework in Foundations of Healthcare, Medical Terminology, Body Structure and Function, and Patient Care Technician (PCT) training. Hands-on learning will prepare students for real-world clinical settings, focusing on patient care techniques aligned with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) standards. By the end of the program, students will be equipped with the competencies needed to pursue certification and entry-level positions in the healthcare field. * Year 2 will be offered in 2026-2027. Student may enter the program in either year. * HVAC Coursework in this program leads to a Certificate of Proficiency in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, preparing students for entry-level HVAC technician roles. Students will gain foundational knowledge in HVAC electricity and system fundamentals while developing essential workplace skills to enhance employability. This program serves as the first step on the career ladder for HVAC professionals. * Year 2 will be offered in 2026-2027. Certificate of Proficiency is earned after two complete years in the program. Students may enter into the program either year. * ROBOTICS & AUTOMATION In this program, students will be provided with fundamental knowledge and hands-on experience in machine tools, automation, robotics and CAD/CAM systems. The program emphasizes industry-relevant skills, preparing students for careers in manufacturing, robotics and automated systems. By completing the full two-year rotation, students can earn ANC's Automation Certificate of Proficiency. Students wishing to participate in the VEX robotics competitions will be required to take this course of study. * Year 1 will be offered in 2025-2026. Certificate of Proficiency is earned after two complete years in the program. Students may enter into the program either year. STEEL TECH ACADEMY For more info & to access the application, visit the Steel Tech Academy page Steel Tech Academy is a two-year program for juniors and seniors that leads to a Certificate of Proficiency in Industrial Maintenance, equipping students with the foundational skills needed for entry-level positions in the field. The curriculum covers mechanical systems, electrical fundamentals, workplace safety, and essential professional skills. With limited seats available, students must apply for admission. Participants will be encouraged to apply for ANC’s Internship Program, gaining hands-on industry experience. Coursework completed in this program also applies toward a Technical Certificate in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Electrical or Steel Industry Technology and can further count toward an Associate Degree in Steel Industry Technology. * Year 2 will be offered in 2026-2027. Certificate of Proficiency is earned after two complete years in the program. Students may enter into the program either year. * WELDING Welding is designed for students wishing to secure marketable welding skills. Through an organized progression of steps, the student builds ability with the different welding processes offered. Progression is competency based. Students will achieve different levels of expertise determined by their interest, aptitude, and participation in class. Through completion of the two years, students can earn a Certificate of Proficiency in Welding. * Years 1 & 2 are offered simultaneously. Certificate of Proficiency is earned after two complete years in the program. The 90,000 square foot facility features the headquarters for the College's customized training force — The Solutions Group, including general purpose classrooms, electrical classroom/lab, mechanical classroom/lab, safety classroom/lab, HVACR classroom/lab, computer classroom, and large multi-purpose room. Additionally, a world-class welding laboratory is available for students. ANC Tech Center students from area high schools are being served on the ANC Main Campus by classroom and lab facilities for Aviation Maintenance, Construction, Industrial Technology, Medical Professions, and Welding. The design incorporates a computer lab specifically for the ANC Tech Center. Also featured is an aviation complex, combination non-destructive testing (NDT) and composites laboratory, and general purpose classrooms to fully accommodate ANC's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified Aviation Maintenance program. Other related facilities include an aircraft apron, paint booth, tool room and compass rose. The building features a two-story height aviation room, welding lab, and glass entrance tower to add to the Center's distinctiveness and appeal. The Center is home to the Arkansas Steelmaking Academy (a partnership with the SMS group) which began operations in 2019. By partnering with SMS, the Arkansas Northeastern College has become a satellite training hub for North America as a cost-effective way to gain knowledge of cutting edge techniques in steelmaking and processing. The agreement between ANC and SMS group allows companies to save the costs of overseas travel by providing a North American option for the renowned TECademy training. The ANC Center for Allied Technologies impressively mixes high-tech and industrial components into an educational delivery mode. The cost to complete this facility was approximately $14.4 million. Distinctive features at the main entrance are the 52-foot vestibule tower, an entrance garden honoring the late John Correnti, an internation flag court featuring flags representing over two dozen corporate and private donors who supported construction costs of the Center, and the Harry L. Crisp II display installed in 2021. The display is a lasting way to highlight Mr. Crisp and his generosity. It is a striking showpiece to greet those who enter the Center that brings a piece of the College's history to the forefront. The curriculum covers mechanical systems, electrical fundamentals, workplace safety, and essential professional skills that are directly related to work in the steel industry. Participants will be encouraged to apply for ANC's Internship Program in order to gain hands-on industry experience. Coursework completed in this program also applies toward a Technical Certificate in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Electrical or Steel Industry Technology and can further count toward an Associate Degree in Steel Industrial Technology. HOW WE STARTED Doug Dunworth, Chief Operating Officer of SMS group Inc., met with then Arkansas Northeastern College President Dr. James Shemwell and his staff to finalize an agreement creating the Arkansas Steelmaking Academy (ASA) on January 31, 2018. SMS group prides itself on being a leading partner in the world of metals not only in North America but throughout the world. Headquartered in Germany, SMS group's largest market is steel production. The company provides world-class new equipment and actively supports operations by devising solutions throughout the process from melting and casting to rolling and finishing. SMS group serves clients such as Nucor Steel and Big River Steel located in Mississippi County, Arkansas, as well as many other manufacturers across the country. Because of this, a North American-based training operation centrally located in Arkansas should benefit both the company and many of the clients it serves.
