STEEL TECH ACADEMY PROGRAM

Steel Tech Academy is a two-year program for juniors and seniors that leads to a Certificate of Proficiency in Industrial Maintenance, equipping students with the foundational skills needed for entry-level positions in the field.  The curriculum covers mechanical systems, electrical fundamentals, workplace safety, and essential professional skills that are directly related to work in the steel industry.

Participants will be encouraged to apply for ANC's Internship Program in order to gain hands-on industry experience.  Coursework completed in this program also applies toward a Technical Certificate in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Electrical or Steel Industry Technology and can further count toward an Associate Degree in Steel Industrial Technology.

For Mississippi County Arkansas, East Poinsett County, Buffalo Island Central high school students starting their senior year in 2025

2 Year Program:

9 months classroom/lab paid internships during students' senior year of high school

15 months classroom/on-site paid internships after high school graduation while attending ANC

25 program entrants each year

One Letter of Recommendation at the time application is submitted

You will be able to upload a letter of recommendation inside of The Steel Tech Academy application.

With limited seats available, students must apply for the program and submit one letter of recommendation.

The application is currently open for rising Juniors and Seniors in high school to begin in the Fall of 2025.

Students will be admitted on a rolling basis and application will be taken until July 15.

What's the difference between Arkansas Steelmaking Academy and Steel Tech Academy?

The Arkansas Steelmaking Academy is the college credit and customized training program designed exclusively for the steel industry companies in Mississippi County, Arkansas.

The Steel Tech Academy is designed for high school students in order to establish a sustainable pipeline of workforce talent into the local steel industry in Mississippi County, Arkansas.

What are the admissions requirements?

The Arkansas Northeastern College Secondary Technical Center offers college credit at no cost to the student.

Who is responsible for the cost of attendance after high school graduation?

After high school graduation, the student is responsible for the cost of attendance.  For information on available scholarships, please visit the Office of Financial Aid website.

As a Steel Tech Academy student, what courses will I take?

Will Steel Tech Academy courses taken while in high school count towards a college degree?

Yes!  As a part of this program, students are enrolled in Arkansas Northeastern College.  The current two-year plan will lead to a Certificate of Proficiency in classes under the Associate of Applied Science, Steel Industry Technologies degree plan.

Does the Steel Tech Academy continue into college?

The Steel Tech Academy is a two-year program, the first year taking place during students' senior year in high school and the second year continuing after high school graduation.

Is there an opportunity for a paid internship?

Yes!  ANC has an excellent internship program.  Through the fall semester, students will create resumes, practice for interviews and will be strongly encouraged to apply for an ANC affiliated internship with local industry partners.  For more information, visit the Internship Program site.
