It is directed by a Board of Governors with interest in providing Arkansas Northeastern College financial assistance. The Foundation directly helps students through a large pool of privately funded scholarships. Currently the ANC Foundation has well over $500,000 in endowed scholarship funds as well as many annually funded scholarships. Because many students' problems have financial implications, the Foundation works closely with the Financial Aid Office and the Admissions Office to help students remedy these problems. Hundreds of students are helped each year through ANC Foundation Scholarships . At that time, Mr. Hiroyuki Inoue, President of the Yamato Kogyo Company, wanted to do something in this area to show his appreciation for the people here. In 1995, Mr. Inoue made an announcement at the tournament inviting students to visit Japan. It was his hope that the students would learn about the Japanese culture and bring that knowledge back to this area. The first ambassadors traveled to Japan in 1996. Since its inception, several ANC students have traveled to Japan through this program. SO, WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROGRAM? It's an opportunity for our students to travel to Japan for a two-week stay to learn about that country. The trip is totally paid for by the Yamato Kogyo Company with the ANC Foundation paying the airfare. The students usually travel in May immediately following commencement and jut prior to the summer semester. Students stay in hotels, the Yamato Kogyo Dormitory, and the homes of Yamato Kogyo employees — to experience the Japanese way of life. Once they return, the ambassadors are available to speak to classes and organizations, such as Rotary, about their travels. While there, they truly are ambassadors not only for Arkansas Northeastern College or the state of Arkansas, but the United States. HOW ARE THE STUDENTS SELECTED? There is a fairly rigorous selection process. Students meeting the criteria are invited to apply. HOME More OUR HISTORY On December 17, 1974, the voters of Mississippi County approved the establishment of a community college district and the levying of a three mill tax to finance construction of the new campus. The State Board of Higher Education and the State Legislature had previously approved establishment of the institution. Governor Dale Bumpers appointed a nine member Board of Trustees who began a search for a President for the institution. Dr. Harry V. Smith, selected as the first President of the College, began service in February 1975, and served unto October 1, 1983, when he was succeeded by Dr. John P. Sullins. An administrative team and faculty were assembled, and on August 25, 1975, classes began for the first time in renovated, temporary facilities located in the former Sudbury Elementary School at 200 South Lake Street in Blytheville. Approximately 800 students enrolled for credit the first term. Non-credit community service courses began with an additional 500 students in the spring term. In February 1976, the Board of Trustees purchased 80 acres of land for construction on South Highway 61. The findings of the Title IX Investigator will be forwarded to the Student Disciplinary Committee. The decision of the Student Disciplinary Committee will be forwarded to both the accused and the accuser. This decision may be appealed to the President's Cabinet within five (5) business days after notification. The determination of what constitutes sexual harassment will vary with the particular circumstances, but it may be described generally as repeated and unwanted sexual behavior, such as physical contact and verbal comments or suggestions which adversely affect the working or learning environment. Instances of gender harassment include discriminatory comments or behavior which create feelings of inferiority in individuals who belong to a gender group. Harassment may otherwise be defined under the Equal Employment Opportunity Commissions guidelines. Individuals who are subjected to sexual or gender harassment are encouraged to pursue the matter through the established informal and formal grievance procedures. Generally, the informal procedures afford an opportunity to explore a problem and consider alternative means for its resolution. A copy of these procedures can be obtained from the Arkansas Northeastern College Policy Manual which is located in each department. This region is a major source of steel-related occupations and other industrial opportunities. This program will facilitate entry into industry with enhanced opportunities for advancement because of knowledge gained through this degree program. While several courses are directed specifically in the manufacturing industry, the program also provides general industrial training that will be attractive to area employers not related to the manufacturing industry. This program not only offers students specific knowledge and skills to enhance their employment opportunity but also because industry is going to offer internships there will be additional employment opportunities because of exposure to the employers and the workplace. The specific ANC Allied Technologies Internship Program is cohort-based meaning that all students will go to school at the same time, two days per week (unless Welding or HVAC is chosen). Where there are electives to be chosen in the degree program, the cohort will be offered their choice by election; however, the election of electives may be binding upon the cohort. For example, in the last semester of the internship program the student will be enrolled into a three credit hour internship course as an elective. Employer participants will offer an internship for approximately 24 hours per workweek where the interns will work 2-3 days (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). Interns are paid a flat hourly rate by the company. Company requirements are flexible. Successful completion of the internship is not a guarantee of employment, nor is employment with the intern sponsor guaranteed; however, students will be given the preference in the employment process, will possess skills or knowledge desirable to the employer, and will have an advantage over other applicants. The internship program is designed to fit the needs of the company. Some companies have opted to select an intern based on prior admission to Arkansas Northeastern College programs.
