The Bootcamp is comprised of 80 hours of workforce education and training that provides participants with entry-level knowledge for entering a career in steelmaking. Employers to benefit from these trained workers would include Big River Steel/U. S. Steel, Nucor-Yamato Steel, Nucor Steel Arkansas, Hybar Steel, Tenaris, Majestic Steel USA, Lexicon, Atlas Tube, Arkansas Steel Processing, Ratner Steel, SMS Milcraft, and Primetals, among others. Tentatively, the 80 hour Bootcamp will be offered over a two-week period (Monday-Friday) with open entry, meaning that participants will not have to wait until the next cycle begins to start training. The Bootcamp at Arkansas Northeastern College will accommodate up to 25 participants per cycle. COMPLETER CREDENTIALS Each Arkansas Steelmaking Bootcamp completer will receive an OSHA-10 General Industry certification as well as an American Heart Association First Aid/CPR certification and a Rough Terrain & Counterbalance Forklift Operator Certification. Aerobic Room The ANC Briggs/Sebaugh Wellness Center has a large Aerobics Room for student use. Because aerobic exercise reduces the risk of many conditions, including obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. ANC offers several aerobic classes with both credit and non-credit options. Exercise classes such as yoga and jazzercize, as well as dance classes, are held in the aerobics room. Student Support Services Computer Lab Student Support Services (SSS) participants have a dedicated student lab. The SSS Student Lab includes six computer stations, a color printer, and a study area. Participants are encouraged to use computers for assignments and research as needed. The lab is also used for both online and individual tutoring sessions. The SSS Resource Library located in the lab offers a vast collection of materials such as study guides and workbooks, career development tools, self-improvement guides, and resume writing tools, as well as commonly used school supplies. The library also includes items students can check-out, such as laptops, Microsoft Surface tablets, color printers, digital recorders, and both graphing and scientific calculators. SSS offers these FREE services as well as other activities to all SSS participants. General Purpose Classroom The Briggs/Sebaugh Wellness Center includes three general classrooms upstairs. These roomy classrooms offer comfortable seating and tables for students to place books or devices such as tablets or laptops. Classes from different disciplines across campus are held in these rooms. Locker Rooms The Briggs/Sebaugh Wellness Center is equipped with two large locker rooms with adjoining showers - one for men and one for women. Students or Wellness Center members are allowed to check out a locker with a lock to safely store their personal items while they utilize the facility. FACILITIES AEROBICS ROOM The aerobics room has a large open area for aerobic activity. This room contains ight-weight dumbbells, kettlebells, steps, resistance bands, exercise balls, and jump ropes. The room is also equipped with a TV. EXERCISE ROOM The exercise room features state-of-the-art Nautilus strength training machines. It also features a great cardiovascular area that includes 4 treadmills, 4 ellipticals, 2 StairMaster exercise bikes, and an Octane Ro rowing machine. This room has a set of dumbbells from 5-40lbs. The exercise room is equipped with a TV. GYM The gym includes 2 basketball courts and a volleyball court. INDOOR WALKING/JOGGING TRACK Located on the 2nd floor of the Wellness Center overlooking the gym floor, is the indoor walking/jogging track. 14 laps around the track = 1 mile INTRAMURALS Intramurals are a vital part of student life on the Arkansas Northeastern College campus! ANC usually offers basketball, volleyball, flag football, table tennis, and more depending on interest and number of participants. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Intramurals are Co-Ed and any ANC student, faculty/staff, or community facilities member may participate. INTRAMURAL INTEREST FORM COMMUNITY FACILITIES MEMBERSHIPS The Briggs/Sebaugh Wellness Center, located on the main ANC campus in Blytheville, AR, is free and open to use for faculty, staff, and current students. Don't feel left out if you don't fit into one of those categories. ANC offers you the opportunity to have a Community Facilities Card. COMMUNITY FACILITIES CARD The Wellness Center is available to the community by purchase of a Community Facilities Card. The Wellness Center Community Facilities Card may be obtained at the Wellness Center front desk. The price of the card is $100 every 6 months or $200 annually. If two members of the immediate family (spouse or legal dependent 17 years or older) purchase a card, the second card will be half price or $50 for 6 months or $100 annually. The discount is limited to one person per family. Cards are purchased for a rolling six month or one year period effective from the date of purchase. Each card will designate the effective and expiration date. Community card holders must present their Community Facilities Card to the Wellness Center front desk and sign-in prior to beginning any fitness activity. Wellness Center Rules & Regulations are effective for ALL Community Facilities Card holders. Online Card Catalog ANC LIBRARY Opened in 1993, our library supports the instructional programs of Arkansas Northeastern College by providing learning resources for students and faculty as well as to members of our community. The ANC Library is staffed with personnel who help to access and obtain educational materials. The library's collection includes books, electronic journals and databases, nursing periodicals, and local newspapers. The online databases — EBSCO, ProQuest, Credo Reference Online, and Gale Health and Wellness Resource Center — offer students access to newspaper articles, reference books, and journals which may be used for research. The library also offers digital magazines through Flipster. Desktop computers are also located in the library. They are linked to printers and are equipped to provide internet access, as well as access to Microsoft Office. The library is a member in the Online Computer Library Center system. The interlibrary loans available to the library through OCLC offers the ability to borrow resources from other libraries when needed. NOTICE CONCERNING THE POSSIBILITY OF INTERRUPTION OF INSTRUCTION DUE TO A STATE OF EMERGENCY Arkansas Northeastern College reserves the right to adjust the mode of instructional delivery and the dates included in the Academic Calendar due to a local, state, or national emergency, which includes issues related to COVID-19 Pandemic. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY ANC promotes academic integrity as the only fair and ethical way to achieve your educational goals. Cheating, plagiarism, collusion, giving or receiving test questions, use of annotated texts or teacher’s editions are all violations of this code. Ultimately, you are held responsible for all college work that you do - inside and outside of class. To help you keep to the level of integrity ANC requires, the College provides the following definitions: INTEGRITY Firm adherence to a code. CHEATING To practice fraud or trickery; to violate rules dishonestly. Examples: giving or receiving test questions/answers; copying computer files from another student; submitting another’s work as your own; using any method to retrieve information in violation of the instructor’s guidelines. PLAGIARISM To steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own, use (another’s production) without crediting the source, to commit literary theft, present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. Examples: using the exact wording of another without the proper use of quotation marks and citations; paraphrasing another’s ideas without giving credit to the producers or writers of the source. COLLUSION Secret agreement or cooperation especially for an illegal or deceitful purpose. Examples: assisting another in an act of academic dishonesty; providing/accepting papers, projects, computer files or test answers to/from another student; allowing another student to copy one’s work, including, but not limited to, essays, term papers, homework assignments, math problems, lab exercises and science lab manuals; working together on an assignment or take-home exam when instructed not to do so; removing tests or answer sheets from a test site; copying test questions, in any form, from the computer screen in an Internet course; allowing another student to view test/quiz items in an Internet course, whether purposefully or negligently (not logging out of myANC in a public area). Academic dishonesty is a serious offense and will not be tolerated at ANC. The following consequences are in effect for all ANC courses: 1st Offense: The instructor will determine the consequences of the academic dishonesty based on his/her policy in the Course Syllabi for that course. The student’s name and documentation of the offense will be submitted to the office of the Dean/Chair of that Division. 2nd Offense: The student will be required to meet with the Division Dean/Chair and/or Chief Academic Officer. At that time, the Dean/Chair and/or VP of Instruction will decide the appropriate consequences of the academic dishonesty, possibly including a failing grade in the course. If the first and second offenses occurred in internet courses, then that student will be banned from enrolling in future internet courses at ANC. Second offense does not have to occur in the same class or same division as the first offense; this policy is in effect for all ANC courses. Instructors have additional policies in effect for their particular courses, and these are clearly stated in the Course Syllabus. Consult with your instructor if you have any doubt as to what constitutes violations of academic integrity in his/her particular course. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Arkansas Northeastern College recognizes that AI tools represent both great disruption and great opportunity. ANC wishes to embrace the use of these tools to enhance outcomes and student learning. However, the institution also realizes that AI can be used to plagiarize, cheat, or otherwise defeat the purpose of obtaining a collegiate education. ANC supports the use of AI in circumstances where it facilitates student learning, and not in circumstances where it replaces student learning. Given the myriad uses of such tools and the great variety of programs of study, this must be determined on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, ANC asserts that it is the responsibility of all ANC instructors to provide clear guidelines regarding the use of AI tools in their classes, and it is the responsibility of all students to know and abide by these guidelines. GRADES OF "INCOMPLETE" A grade of "I" (incomplete) is assigned on the final grade roster when a student fails to meet all course requirements for reasons beyond his/her control, ie., illness of the student, or serious illness or death in the family. Procrastination or pressures of work in other courses are not satisfactory reasons for an "I" grade. The "I" grade will be calculated into the grade point average with the appropriate hours attempted and no quality points earned. Students who do not complete the requirements for removal of the "I" grade by midterm of the following fall or spring semester will be assigned a grade of "F." Students who complete the requirements will have the instructor assigned grade posted to the transcript and the grade point average will be adjusted accordingly. ANC STUDENT EMAIL ANC student email is the official means of communication with students on all campuses. Important college-related information will be sent to individual ANC student email accounts. Students are expected to check their email on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with college communications. Types of communication include, but are not limited to: financial aid information, bills, payment deadlines and inclement weather closings. Your email address will be your (first initial)(last name)(last 4 digits of ANC ID number)@smail.anc.edu. The default password will be your full ANC ID number with no spaces or hyphens. If you already created a new password, and forgot that password, email the ANC Helpdesk at anchelp@smail.anc.edu . TITLE IX AND SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION ANC is committed to providing an environment that is free from any sexual harassment. It is the policy of the College to maintain the College community as a place of work and study for staff, faculty, and students free of sexual and gender harassment. Sexual harassment of employees is prohibited under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and sexual harassment of students may constitute discrimination under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 as amended. Harassment may otherwise be defined under the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission guidelines. The Advising Center advises all new ANC students. Once a student is progressing through his/her program of study, the student will be assigned an advisor in the field of study. Prospective students are provided free practice resources for ACCUPLACER test placement. The Advising Center also houses a Virtual Career Center including career placement services, as well as academic tutoring services for enrolled students. The tutoring services offered are one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and group labs for specific classes. TRIO - Student Support Services Student Support Services (SSS) provides services and activities designed to facilitate the academic growth and strengthen the personal and social development of eligible students. In addition to free tutoring, the program offers academic advising, career counseling, personal counseling, study skills workshops, and assistance in applying for financial aid. The program staff also assists students in the transfer process from ANC to four-year institutions. Please refer to the Student Support Services page for more information.
