STUDENT FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM
The cost of higher education is indeed
significant, but a college education represents a viable avenue, which enables
a student to pursue careers that will benefit both the student and
society. The student financial aid
program at Arkansas Northeastern College is intended to assist qualified
students in obtaining a college education when they might otherwise lack the
necessary financial resources.
Additional information regarding the various types of financial aid
available, application procedures, and eligibility requirements may be found in
the Arkansas Northeastern College Financial Aid Handbook available to answer
questions and assist students in completing the application process.
SEE YOUR ADVISOR
Returning students need to have their
schedules approved by their advisors. If
you do not know the name of your advisor, check with the Registrar’s Office in
Statehouse Hall. If an advisor has not
been assigned, contact one of the admission counselors in the Admissions Office
to help plan your schedule.
SPECIAL NOTES
There are some courses that require a
prior skill or prerequisite course.
Check with your advisor or an Admissions Counselor if you think that you
have the necessary skills for success in the course.
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
The
Student Support Services at Arkansas Northeastern College is designed to help
currently enrolled students to stay in college and facilitate his/her transfer
to another institution to obtain his/her baccalaureate degree. These students are assisted in the financial
aid process and through the use of tutorial and study skills services. Students also have academic, course, and
personal counseling available along with career information, mentoring, and
career exploration opportunities. This
service is located in Statehouse Hall.
Student Support Services is a federally funded Title IV program of the
U.S. Department of Education.
The computer lab areas in the “B” wing are open to all
students at the posted times. Assistants
in these areas will help you if you need to work on special course projects.
MANDATORY REMEDIATION OF DEFICIENCIES IN BASIC
SKILLS
Arkansas Northeastern College complies with section 19 of
Act 1052 of 1987, approved by the state legislature and requires remediation in
areas profiled as deficient. The College
employs a comprehensive assessment and placement program to assist each
individual in realizing his or her potential and success as a student. Degree seeking students (Associate of Arts in
Teaching and Associate in Science) must take the assessments; the College,
furthermore, encourages all entering students to take the assessments. Assessments in compliance with legislative
mandate, is based upon any of the following: ACT, SAT, ASSET, or COMPASS.
A student who is deficient in any area (mathematics,
English, or reading) must enroll in and successfully complete the appropriate
developmental course(s) during the first semester of enrollment.
Students who require remediation must have the approval of
their advisor in order to enroll in any college level course prior to
completing developmental course work.
SPECIAL
ASSISTANCE
The Learning Assistance Center in the Adams/Vines
Library complex provides drop-in assistance and tutorial services for all areas
of instruction. If you need help with a
course, the staff in the LAC is available for assistance during the day and
evenings. Also, the PLATO computer
software is available for all areas of instruction on a tutorial basis,
including such courses as Calculus. Instructors
should refer students to the PLATO lab supervisors for help in specific areas.
IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR ATTENDANCE
National studies have shown that
regular attendance in classes means better grades. It is to your advantage, as a student, to be
in attendance in every class and to allocate appropriate study time throughout
each week to insure success in your classes.
At Arkansas Northeastern College, your instructors will expect you to
attend regularly all classes and labs.
In the event that you must be absent because of illness or an emergency,
you should contact your instructor or instructors regarding why you were absent
and to find out what work you missed.
Please remember that absences can affect your grade adversely and
regular attendance is a proven benefit to learning.
