Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
The College complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. In accordance with this federal law, the institution has adopted policies and procedures governing the confidentiality of student education records. For specific policies and procedures, contact the Registrar's Office.
No individual shall have acess to, nor will the institution disclose any information from, a student's educational record without the written consent of the student or as otherwise authorized by FERPA.
FERPA affords students certain rights with respect to the student's education records. They are:
Family Policy Compliance Office
The College has designated certain information contained in the education records of its students as directory information. Under the Family and Educational Rights Privacy Act as amended, the College may make public information which has been designated as "directory information." The following is considered directory information: 1)student's name, 2)address, 3)telephone number, 4)date of birth, 5)major fields of study, 6)classification by year, 7)number of hours in which enrolled and number completed, 8)dates of attendance including matriculation and withdrawal dates, 9)degrees, honors, and awards received, including type and date granted.
Data from a student's records cannot be released without that student's written consent except to:
If a student gives someone at the school as a reference for prospective employers or wants the school to release information other than directory information, the student must sign a release form.
