Career Opportunities

With the frequent changes in information technology, corporations need individuals with the technical knowledge and skills to implement and manage diverse technologies.  Companies without these individuals find it difficult to remain competitive and innovative in a global economy.

Graduates with knowledge in the various fields of information technology are needed to supply the demands of these companies.  According to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, five of the top 12 fastest-growing occupations through 2014 will be information technology.  In some cases, these jobs will grow at a pace of 40-55% over the next ten years, clearly outpacing the growth of jobs in other industries.

Learning Environment

Faculty use projects, case studies, simulations, lectures, industry internships, and team-based projects to provide an enriching educational experience.  Each of these teaching methods provides a hands-on, learn-by-doing approach that prepares the student for their careers.  Small class sizes allow students and professors to work together in a comfortable and challenging environment.

Faculty

In addition to experience in academic environments, our faculty members have career experience in the subjects they teach.  Our faculty members have been employed as IT managers, network engineers, systems analysts, programmers, and consultants.  This combination of experience and academic expertise allows the faculty to work effectively with our industry partners in developing a relevant educational experience.

Bachelor of Applied Science

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is now delivering the Bachelor of Applied Science degree to the ANC University Center.  The BAS degree combines the excitement of science and technology with the challenges of the business world.  The BAS is designed for students who want to continue their education in order to make a real difference in their lives and careers.  As a BAS graduate from the UAFS, one will have the scientific skills and technological knowledge to make career advancement and contribute to the success of any business or industry.

Career opportunities include team leader, department manager, project director, technical manager, line supervisor, management trainee, mid-level supervisor, production manager or project coordinator.  Median earnings of year-round full-time workers aged 25 and over for a high school diploma is $30,100, for an Associate Degree $35,500 and for a Bachelor's degree $47,800.

The BAS degree is brought to the ANC campus through ADSTEP which is the Arkansas Delta Science Technology Engineering and Math Talent Expansion Project with ANC.  The goals of this initiative include recruiting more students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers; creating a career pathway in Advanced Manufacturing and Information Technology, as aligned with industry requirements; create educational pathways which allow students to pursue certification, beginning in high school and continuing in technical education; and promoting an associate degree and, ultimately, the Bachelor of Applied Science degree on the community college campus.

Representatives will travel to the ANC campus to meet with prospective students and staff.  For additional information, please contact the ANC University Center at 870-763-3137 or via email at rsingleton@smail.anc.edu.

Arkansas State University brings their Bachelor of Applied Science degree to the ANC University Center, but it is a totally different degree.  The degree options include Power Plant Technology, Business Enterprise (Service and Retail Business), Steel Industry Technology, and Computer Information Systems.  Please contact the ANC University Center for degree plans for each.
