· Counselor WorkshopArea counselors attend an annual workshop designed to provide career awareness and career planning activities. This workshop emphasizes the link between subjects studied in school and skills required in the workplace. Counselors are introduced to ways of connecting critical thinking and problem-solving skills learned in school to the decisions students make when they enter the real world. · Teacher WorkshopA course competency review workshop with secondary and postsecondary faculty is held prior to the beginning of a new school year in order to evaluate current curriculum requirements, establish standards in meeting the competencies and encourage camaraderie among faculty. · Technology TrainingTechnology training provides secondary and postsecondary teachers an opportunity to attend computer training courses in order to update or learn computer skills that are needed in the classroom. · Advisory CommitteeThe College Now Advisory Committee is designed to work with the College Now program in planning and coordinating opportunities for students, educators, business and industry to keep abreast of current workplace needs and expectations. In order to learn from and network with peers on workplace initiatives, the College Now Advisory Committee members attend the annual National Tech Prep "Employer to Employer" Conference. · Work-based LearningThe College Now program provides opportunities for education and business partnerships through plant tours, postsecondary school tours, internships, job shadowing, guest speakers, career fairs, newsletters, business and industry panels, school-based, industry driven projects and career camps. · Public RelationsThe College Now staff is actively involved in school and community projects by participating with civic groups, workforce development, community events and non-profit organizations. · Registration and Web Page DevelopmentA web page, in addition to online registration, has been developed for College Now students and teachers in an effort to improve communication and awareness among teachers, students, parents and community. · College/Career Prep WorkshopsWorkshops for parents and students to explore college and career opportunities via the Internet are offered by the College Now program on the Mississippi County Community College campuses. Financial aid is also discussed. · Software, Books and Periodicals In order for teachers to have the latest technology in their classroom, the College Now program assists in the purchase or upgrade of computer software to facilitate articulation and meet postsecondary and industry specifications. The program also equips teachers and students with the most current teaching materials and resources.
